La storia
Bodegas Barbadillo was founded in 1821 in Sanlúcar de Barrameda by two cousins, Benigno Barbadillo y Hortigüela and Manuel López Barbadillo, who returned to Spain from Mexico and bought their first bodega, El Toro. In 1827 the house bottled a Manzanilla for the first time, and it remains family-owned today, with 16 bodega buildings in Sanlúcar's Barrio Alto.
Barbadillo is best known for Manzanilla Solear and for Castillo de San Diego, first released in 1975, now called Barbadillo Blanco de Albariza and widely regarded as Spain's best-selling white wine. Its export Sherry range covers Manzanilla, Fino, Amontillado Medium Dry, Oloroso, Pale Cream, Cream and Pedro Ximénez, and the group exports to more than 50 countries.
