The story
Adega Cooperativa do Cartaxo was founded in 1954 by 22 partners in Cartaxo, a sub-region of the Tejo with a winegrowing tradition going back over a thousand years. After two decades in the former Junta Nacional do Vinho buildings, it moved to its own winery in 1974. Today it works around 800 hectares of vines and produces about 10 million litres a year, roughly 70% of it red, under the Vinho Regional Tejo and DOC do Tejo designations.
The flagship Bridão range runs from Classic wines, also in 375 ml, to varietals such as Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet and Sauvignon Blanc, plus Reserva, Private Collection and a late-harvest white. Other brands include Coudel Mor, Plexus, Xairel and Encostas do Bairro, alongside CTX fortified wines and Absolvido, an alcohol-free range.
