The story
Martha's history goes back to 1727, when the Marta family established itself as grape growers in the Baixo Corgo, the westernmost sub-region of the Douro. The business is still family-run from Abaças, near Vila Real, with Pedro VB Marta as general manager, Manuel Pedro Marta as master blender and Euclides Lázaro as winemaker.
The portfolio includes Douro DOC red and white wines, a full range of Ports, and Moscatel do Douro made from Moscatel Galego, golden with hints of orange, in formats from 10 cl Marthinha miniatures to a 2-litre garrafão. Its aguardentes, Vínica Velha and Velhíssima, are aged in Port casks, and Martha's also produces licensed official wines for SL Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting CP.
