About

The story

Adega de Cantanhede was established in 1954 in Bairrada, in central Portugal, and today brings together 486 associated winegrowers. The cooperative produces more than a quarter of all Bairrada DOC wines and exports over a third of its turnover to more than 20 countries, including Brazil, the United States, Canada, the UK, France and Japan.

Baga, Bairrada's signature red grape, leads its reds alongside Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Castelão; whites draw on Maria Gomes, Arinto, Bical and Cercial. The region's cool, humid climate suits classic-method sparkling wine, a local tradition since the 19th century. The team is led by chief winemaker António Ventura, and the winery is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and IFS Food. Its ranges include Marquês de Marialva, Conde de Cantanhede, Villa Rosa and Praça dos Marqueses.
