The story
Adega Cooperativa de Palmela was founded in 1955 as the Adega Cooperativa da Região do Moscatel de Setúbal and began production in 1958, with 50 members and 1.5 million litres. Today its members farm around 1,000 hectares, mostly on the sandy plain that covers much of the Palmela municipality, and the cooperative produces over 8 million litres a year: about 70% red, 25% white and 5% Moscatel. It is ISO 9001 certified and has held IFS Food certification since 2020.
Its oldest and most emblematic brand is Pedras Negras. The range also includes Adega de Palmela DOC Palmela wines up to Grande Reserva, Moscatel de Setúbal and a 10-year-old Moscatel, Vale de Touros (including an old-vine Castelão Reserva), Vale dos Barris, Palma, Cá Calharás and Amus Moscatel grape spirit, in formats from 5 cl to 10 litres.
