Crocodile River takes its name from the river that runs along the southern edge of South Africa's Kruger National Park, and the label puts its namesake front and centre: a crocodile surrounded by birds, its scales picked out in varnish. The wine itself comes from the Western Cape winelands at the other end of the country. This red blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in a soft, fruity, easy-drinking style.
Tasting notes
Aromas of ripe mulberry, spice and dark forest fruits. Medium-bodied, with a ripe, soft finish.
Grapes and region
About 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Shiraz, from Wine of Origin (W.O.) Western Cape, South Africa's main wine-growing region.
Winemaking
The grapes are crushed early in the morning and cold-soaked for 24 hours, then fermented slowly at cool temperatures. After fermentation the wine stays on the skins for a week, for deep colour and soft, ripe tannins.
Serving and storage
Pairs with red meat, pasta and burgers.
